In less than 24 hours after writing a post about the possible upcoming peace negotiations with the Taliban, we lose three souls in the dirt of Afghanistan.
DOD Identifies Marine Casualties
The Department of Defense announced today the death of three Marines who were supporting Operation Resolute Support.
The following Marines died April 8 while conducting combat operations in Parwan province, Afghanistan.
Cpl. Robert A. Hendriks, 25, of Locust Valley, New York.
Sgt. Benjamin S. Hines, 31, of York, Pennsylvania.
Staff Sgt. Christopher K.A. Slutman, 43, of Newark, Delaware.
These Marines were assigned to 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve.
These three US Marines were killed yesterday near one of the gates of our largest base, Bagram Air Base. Three marines serving for our country, but are they service for Afghanistan? What does the Taliban have in a way of protecting? They produce, via brainwashing, fighters with an unlimited supply through the madrassas of Pakistan. They don’t care how many of their own people we kill. Their leaders are mostly hidden in safe-havens in Pakistan and other places.
Our forces have pulled back to the largest of bases like Bagram and Kandahar. The FOBs and OPs I used to reside on, don’t have an American within eyesight. Heck, I am not even sure of Afghan forces are even occupying their areas anymore. The Taliban can move uninhibited around the country with little to no concern. I use the work Taliban as a common name to categorize all of the enemy we face in the country. The reality is they aren’t true Talibs as we faces in the early 2000s. Many are just thugs, drug runners, Afghan Mafia, or just guns for hire. However its just easier to call them all Taliban.
“Americans have the watches, Afghans have the time”
That was a common saying in country when I was there 13 years ago. It made sense then and it rings true now. They let us have the watches, but they had the patience and it is paying off. So since they are free to reign terror across the country, prep themselves and then attack us when they are ready. They can do all of this without any fear of us harassing them.
So how much sense does it make for us to stay there without a clear goal-line in sight and in mind? Why are our son’s and daughters there without a focus of finding, fixing and killing the enemy. How much sense does it make for them to negotiate anything with us? What do they have to give up, versus what do they want us to give up. I can guarantee you those compromises will be completely one-sided, and not in our favor.
