This Veteran’s Day, this 2018 day is a very special one but I am not sure most of the world or even the USA knows that. It is significantly special because it is the 100th anniversary of the beginning of this holiday. A holiday originally known as Armistice Day marking the end of WW I, which ended 100 years ago on November 11th.
I am said it before on here that without Veteran’s Day there would be no Memorial Day or even an Independence Day. It is a shame our country does not recognize this day like Canada, Australia and Britain does. They recognize the entire month and do it with the wearing of red poppies. The US just recognizes the day and even then it is not a real holiday, except for banks, schools and the Federal Government.
However this holiday should be looked at in a more special light than it normally is. 100 years since the ending of the first great World War, the war that was supposed to end all wars. Of course it really didn’t end all wars and looking back over the last 100 years we have plenty of examples of others, with some still going on today.
So please take a moment to recognize and thank those who have stepped up to answer the call and defend all of the freedoms we enjoy as Americans today. Regardless if those Veterans served in combat or not, they have raised their right hand and been willing to lay their life down for the rest of the country. There is no better example of patriotism.
