There are two quotes in the article below that really stand out.
“I was in Iraq, but Iraq is peacekeeping. This is war-fighting here.”
“…They kept coming and kept coming, they clearly don’t have a problem recruiting. I’ve done two tours of Iraq and I’ve never experienced anything like this before.”
Those are both quotes from young British paratroopers who are fighting the enemy every single day in Afghanistan. You can read the entire article where these quotes came from here, http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/1528505/Iraq-was-not-like-this.-This-is-war-fighting.html
It is a peephole into the world that our soldiers and our allies’ soldiers are living in every day. Afghanistan is HOT HOT HOT right now. It has been all year. 2008 is now the most deadly year for our soldiers since we went to war there in 2001. This is not suprising, and this is not really that much news except I am surprised it took this long in the year to achieve that terrible milestone. Go back and look at my postings in Dec-Feb on this blog and on the VAMC blog and you will see where I said this time and time again.
I will be writing much more about this next week as I have several blog entries in development based on the reports coming out of country.
